NGONG ASSISTANT CHIEF ARRESTED AND CHARGED WITH RECEIVING 29,000 BRIBE

Arrested and arraigned before Nairobi’s

Head of Station Anti Corruption Court

Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzyoki the

accused Raphael Gichuru Gathigi was

charged with two counts of receiving a

bribe.

The assistant chief of Ngong sub County

Kajiado County pleaded not guilty and

was released on a bond with hash

conditions in both counts.

Receiving a bribe under Kenyan Anti

Corruption laws section 6 (1) (a) as

read with section 18 of the bribery act

is a serious offence and attracts hash

penalty plus huge amounts tripled as

fine inline to the amended act.

The State Prosecution informed the trial

court that being a person employed by a

public body to wit, Ministry of

Interior and Coordination of National

Government as the Assistant Chief Lower

Matasia, the accused requested for a

financial advantage of 15, 000 Kenya

shillings from Benson Waweru Wachira

with intent that, in consequence, he was

in a position to write a letter to the

Lands Registrar Ngong requesting to

lift a restriction placed on the

complainant parcel of land.

And in a separate count the accused is

alleged to have also received 14,000

Kenya shillings on the 3 day of

December, 2021 at Matasia Shopping

center with the same alleged false

promise of drafting a letter to lands

Ministry in favor to lift the restricted

conditions .

The accused Raphael Gichuru Gathigi will

appear before Anti Corruption Court in

fortnight for a pretrial pending

trial.
