I WAS TOLD TO SWALLOW THE SCROLL AND TO PROPHESY
By Fr. Felix (African Times Guest Writer)
Suspense plays a strong part in these central
chapters of the Book of Revelation. The opening
of the scroll of history has been the subject
since the scroll was given to the Lamb, who
began gradually to open the seven seals.
However, after the opening of the sixth seal
there was a delay while the messianic army, the
tribes of the new Israel who had undergone all
kinds of trials, was paraded and reviewed
before the Lamb.
Then come the seven angels with their seven
trumpets. However, before the seventh angel
can sound his trumpet, there is another
interlude when the powerful angel gives the
scroll of history to the prophet.
Although this scroll is called (once) ‘a little
scroll’, it is surely the same scroll as was given
to the Lamb, the Lord of history, in the great
vision of the heavenly throne-room. It is
therefore the scroll of history. Now it is ready,
unrolled after the seven seals have been
broken.
In the prophet’s mouth it is sweet (as in Ezekiel
3.3), since the task of the prophet in
announcing God’s message is always sweet;
but the message is dire, because it announces
the suffering of the martyrs before the Lamb
can be declared.
