CONTRACTOR CHARGED WITH 80M TAX EVASION

The proprietor of a construction company was
arraigned before Nyeri law court and charged
with evading payment of taxes amounting to
80 million Kenya shillings.
David Maina virtually appeared before Senior
Principal Magistrate Mathias Okuche and
pleaded not guilty to all three counts and was
freed on a cash bail of two million pending a
pretrial on 16th December year 2020.
Maina being a supplier for Murangá County,
under-declared taxable income and in several
occasions filed nil returns despite earning huge
sums of money a taxable income.
Kenya Revenue Authority is said to have
been denied the income tax amounting to
51.8 million for the years 2014 to 2018, Value
Added Tax (VAT) of 18.3 million for the
years 2014 to 2018 and Directors Income Tax of
10.7 million also for the years 2014 to
2018.
