A lawyer accused of fraudulently
obtaining ksh. 26 million from his
client was arrested on Tuesday 8th
August and arraigned before Milimani
lower criminal court.
David Chege Mboche pleaded not guilty to
two counts of obtaining money by false
pretence and conspiracy defraud
contrary to section 313 and 317 of the
penal code.
Senior Principal Magistrate Ben Mark
Ekhubi ordered for a pre bail report
after the accused through his lawyer
requested for a lenient bond.
It is alleged that the lawyer obtained
26 million from his client pretending
that he would defend her in a civil
case.
Chege is accused of obtaining KSh.
26,075,000 from Marianne Kamau that on
diverse dates between February 1, 2022
and July 30, 2023, with intent to
defraud.
State prosecution alleged that the
accused told the complainant that he
would conduct a civil case at Milimani
law courts on her behalf. And the fees
were for filing the case but it turned
out to be non-existent.
He is also accused of conspiring to
defraud Kamau of Sh 26 million. It is
alleged that he committed the offence
with another person who is yet to be
charged.
