The leadership of Raila Odinga’s Azimio
youth wing The Movement for the Defense
of Democracy (MDD) demanded that the
government with immediate effect to
lower the cost of living failure to
which they will call upon all the youth
countrywide to start an “Unga”
Revolution.
Speaking during a press briefing in
Nairobi County, One of the Frontline
leaders Fred Makajos said that one
thousand Kenyan shillings can no longer
afford to buy anything in the current
economy.
“Food Prices have gone ridiculously high
and local wanainchi are suffering
terribly. Everything has become so
expensive to the extent that living in
Kenya has become more like a torture. If
the government does not move with speed
to alleviate the situation then we will
start an Unga Revolution,” he said.
Speaking in a workshop held in the
Capital City of Kenyan outspoken leader
John Mukoya said that they are calling
upon stakeholders and the local citizens
in general to join the movement with
the aim of turning around the economic
situation in Kenya.
“We call upon people from all walks of
life to prepare to join us in
demonstrations to help in turning
around the economy. If the government
does not act immediately to alleviate
poverty in this country then we are
going to start a revolution. It is a
shame that the average citizen can
literally afford nothing,” he said.
The newly formed youth wing by the
opposition leader Raila Amollo Odinga
also demanded that University students
should have access without hindrance to
HELB loans.
