Hon Mukunji and Varsity Student Leaders Makes Pact Against The Ongoing Demonstrations

By Garvin Patrick

University student leaders in

partnership with the member of

National Assembly for Manyatta

constituency, Hon. Gitonga Mukunji

yesterday held a presser addressing

the ongoing protests staged by the

Azimio la Umoja wing.

Azimio la Umoja, with the help of its

patron, Raila Odinga, continue to fuel

the demonstrations which has brought

the economy and lives of the youths in

great danger and goes on to depreciate

the current status of the country.

According to Hon Gitonga Mukunji, the

economy has not been good and it is

what was inherited from the previous

government and also it has been

affected by the international

community and the severe droughts.

“It is important to note that what has

gone bad cannot be corrected in a day

and we don’t have the government

recovering plan being executed

therefore we need to call our

opposition to order and not have

demonstrations at this time,” he

highlighted.

He further went on to state that

selfish politicians are taking

advantage of the current situation for

their satisfaction when the

government is working 24/7 to ensure

that the economy stabilizes.

“We know when the opposition leader

calls for demonstrations he means

thuggery, chaos, bloodshed having the

university youths being used to

destroy other people’s properties.”

Gitonga expressed.

While speaking as the representative

of the young parliamentarian

committee, he categorically stated

that they are not taking such nonsense

and for every business ruined the

opposition leader shall be held

accountable and if need be he will be

forced to give some of his properties

to compensate the damages caused due

to the demonstrations.

“You cannot purport that you are

saving the economy while Eastleigh is

on its knees having lost around 3

billion shillings just because of the

demonstrations you are leading,”

expressed one of the student leaders.

She further added that the youths

should resist this call for there is

no economy that can be improved in the

streets with demonstrations.

They should rather give the government

time for it is only 6 months old and

you can never expect a full term birth

in six months so let us be patient.
