By Vera Shawiza
SportPesa, through its Kits for Africa
program has donated football kits
to Riruta’s Mainstream Football
Academy to support its players under
various age categories.
The items comprising jerseys, shorts,
bags and training gear will help the
academy which nurtures and develops
football talent in the area with players
ranging between ages two (2) to twenty
three (23).
“Kits for Africa was started with the
purpose of supporting football loving
communities so that they can enjoy the
sport as well as nurture talent. This will
also help create a large pool of skilled
players to make the squads of various
clubs and the national teams that will
one day make Kenya proud,” said
SportPesa Public Relations Manager Lola
Okulo during the handover.
Kits for Africa is an initiative that
encourages football fans to donate their
old kit for under privileged grassroot
teams across Africa. This initiative has
led to over 50,000 kits collected and
passed on to football loving
communities in Kenya, South Africa,
Tanzania among other countries in the
continent.
“We believe in nurturing the kids, and
this donation will go a long way to help
us achieve that. We therefore thank the
SportPesa team and ask that they make
this a partnership to ensure these kids
are well nurtured in sports”, said Coach
Christopher Karanja.
This marks the fifth year that SportPesa
is running this project aimed at building
and developing grassroot football as part
of the company’s pledge to transform
lives through sports.
